In February 2006, Calabasas enacted the Comprehensive Secondhand Smoke Control Ordinance which prohibits smoking in all public places in the City of Calabasas where other persons can be exposed to second-hand smoke. These places include indoor and outdoor businesses, hotels, parks, apartment common areas, restaurants and bars where people can be reasonably expected to congregate or meet. Under the law, smoking outside in public areas within the city is restricted to select “Designated Smoking Areas.” The law went into effect in March 16, 2006, garnering much local and national media attention. The full text of the ordinance may be found at Calabasas’ official website.

The Comprehensive Second-Hand Smoke Control Ordinance has been expanded in the beginning of 2008 requiring 80% of rental apartment buildings to be permanently designated as non-smoking units by January 1, 2012.

Banners Allowed in Calabasas for Holiday Season

“Our Chamber businesses are the lifeblood of the Calabasas economy.”chamber-door

When the Calabasas chamber was asked, “can the retail businesses in Calabasas have more freedom to place temporary banners throughout the holidays?” our Calabasas chamber responded by applauding this proposal by the Planning Commission.  By allowing temporary banners, the chamber hopes to promote local business and encourage our residents to take advantage of retail opportunities in town.

Following deliberation, the Council adopted the proposal of the Planning Commission.  The Calabasas Chamber is very grateful to the City for their support of our retail businesses.  To get the rest of the information regarding the new temporary banner guidelines, please visit the City’s website at:   www.cityofcalabasas.com

Thank you, and please remember to shop our local businesses first during the holiday season!

Last year the Calabasas High School Dance Team won the National Dance Championship for their Character Dance.

The dance program will be having their dance performances on December 16th and 17th at 7:00 pm at Calabasas High School.  Dance is one of the most popular programs at the high school with just over 200 dancers in the entire program.   73 of those dancers will be performing in the Winter Concert.  Tickets will be on sale for the Winter Concert starting December 7th in the CHS student store and will also be available at the door. A portion of our profits from the winter concert will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. (www.wish.org)

Their Spring Concert (date and time to be announced) will include all dancers in Dance I, Dance 11 and Dance Team.

Contact Miss Fraise, the Calabasas High School Dance Teacher, for any further information…and come out for a fabulous night of great dance performances!
